"My name is Terry McGonigle, known by my students and friends as “McGoo”, and I am a 30+ year veteran of the educational theatre classroom. In 1973, I received a B.A. in speech communication arts with an emphasis in acting and directing from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. On year and three days later I received my M.A. in technical theatre and design from Emporia State University, also in Kansas. Although I am a native of Wichita, I have worked in professional theatre in both New York and Texas and have lived in the Atlanta, Georgia area from 1989 to 2007. Although I have worked in professional theatre as an actor, technician, director and designer, my first love is teaching. In 1999 I was named as the Georgia Youth Arts Educator of the Year and in 2004, I was inducted into the Kansas Theatre Hall of Fame for my contributions to the growth of educational theatre in that state. In 2006, I was inducted into the Georgia Theatre Hall of Fame. In the fall of 2008, I was inducted into the Educational Theatre Association's National Teacher Hall of Fame. Obviously theatre is my occupation, hobby and passion. I have presented workshops in puppetry, costuming and makeup at 19 different state Thespian events. Professionally I have spent time in New York, in show productions at Six Flags Over Texas, at various regional theatres across the country, and have served as the costumer for the last two national Thespian cast productions of Ragtime and Thoroughly Modern Millie. In my free time, I love to travel, go to movies (sci-fi and suspense thrillers are my favorites), and use my talents in theatre design to do some free-lance, interior design work. I also believe that we have a responsibility to give back to the community in which we live. So, in addition to helping build houses for Habitat for Humanity, I design and make a period costume each year that is donated the Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS auction to raise money to help support their efforts. I have one daughter, Tiffani, (33) who has blessed me with two super grandkids (Brooke, 11 and Eric, 9) that I enjoy spending time with whenever I get the chance. |
