Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy – soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the canon: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll," out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game.

Described by Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play ever written,” Our Town follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually—in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre -- discover again just how precious life is, every moment.

Book By William Hauptman
Music and lyrics by Roger Miller
Adapted from the novel by Mark Twain

Produced in Collaboration with
Academy Instrumental and Vocal Music

Twain’s timeless classic sweeps us down the mighty Mississippi as the irrepressible Huck Finn helps his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River. Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming, and bring to life your favorite characters from the novel: the Widow Douglas and her stern sister, Miss Watson; the uproarious King and Duke, who may or may not be as harmless as they seem; Huck’s partner in crime, Tom Sawyer, and their rowdy gang of pals; Huck’s drunken father, the sinister Pap Finn; and the lovely Mary Jane Wilkes and her trusting family. Propelled by an award winning score from Roger Miller, the king of country music, this jaunty journey provides a brilliantly theatrical celebration of pure Americana.

In this treatment at Academy Theatre, over 100 students bring a sweeping ensemble approach to the classic musical, with striking images and remarkably talented student actors, musicians and technicians.  This production is a stunning visual treat, and the songs will make your toes tap and your heart soar.  This faithful rendition of Huck's passage into young adulthood is an inspiring tribute to Twain's abolitionist spirit.

She met me without going beyond — slightly unbalanced, mentally-maybe, emotionally stirred. To touch, to be touched, by a stranger’s kindness. This work is full of imagery, driven by dynamic movement that will leave an impression on all those who are not afraid to be touched.

The annual Dance Drama is a collaboration between Academy Theatre and Academy Dance.
